Apple and LG Reportedly Partner on New Smart Home Devices

Apple LG smart home devices

Apple is reportedly working with LG to build a broader ecosystem of smart home devices. The planned lineup includes a smart lock, thermostat and doorbell designed to work closely with Apple’s upcoming smart home hub.

The hub will reportedly launch on October 13. Moreover, it is expected to feature a 6-inch square display suitable for a countertop or wall mount.

More smart home and security devices planned

Alongside the lock, thermostat and doorbell, the two companies are reportedly developing several security cameras. The lineup could include indoor and outdoor cameras as well as a floodlight model.

Additionally, LG could announce the devices as early as next week, although their formal release may come later. Interestingly, the products will reportedly carry LG branding despite the companies developing them together.

The partnership could therefore give Apple a faster route into several established smart home categories. At the same time, LG would provide the hardware expertise and product range needed to support a wider connected-home ecosystem.

Apple expands its smart home ambitions

The upcoming products could also strengthen Apple’s position against Amazon’s smart home lineup. Amazon already offers similar products, particularly through its Ring range of home security devices.

Meanwhile, Apple has increasingly explored new categories through recent hardware launches. An expanded smart home presence now appears to be one of the company’s next major areas of focus.

Consequently, the combination of a central home hub and connected accessories could create a more unified ecosystem. The smart lock, thermostat, doorbell and security cameras would give users several ways to manage their homes through compatible Apple technology.

Furthermore, the partnership suggests Apple may rely on established hardware manufacturers as it expands into new smart home categories. If the reported products arrive as expected, Apple could soon have a considerably broader presence in the connected-home market.
