Autodesk has introduced 3D Editor and Canvas for Flow Studio, expanding its AI-powered filmmaking platform with tools that give creators greater control over AI-generated scenes. The update lets filmmakers edit three-dimensional environments directly while combining generative AI with traditional visual effects workflows.
The new features build on Autodesk’s Flow Studio platform, which transforms live-action footage into editable CG scenes. Instead of treating AI output as a finished result, Autodesk enables creators to refine camera angles, lighting, character placement, and scene composition throughout production. Consequently, filmmakers can maintain creative control while reducing manual work.
3D editing brings greater creative control
The new 3D Editor allows users to manipulate AI-generated assets and scenes from any camera angle within a fully editable 3D workspace. Meanwhile, Canvas provides a visual environment where creators can direct shots, iterate on ideas, and combine AI-generated content with custom 3D assets. As a result, artists can move beyond prompt-based generation and into hands-on scene direction.
Flow Studio also supports integration with professional production tools, including Autodesk Maya, Blender, Unreal Engine, and USD workflows. Furthermore, creators can export editable assets, motion capture data, camera tracking, and clean plates for additional refinement in existing production pipelines.
AI filmmaking platform continues to expand
The launch follows Autodesk’s broader expansion of Flow Studio throughout 2026. Earlier this year, the company introduced Wonder 3D for text-to-3D and image-to-3D generation before adding AI Rigging and Neural Layer to simplify character animation and cinematic rendering. Together, these capabilities create an end-to-end AI filmmaking workflow from asset generation to final production.
Autodesk positions Flow Studio as a creative assistant rather than a replacement for artists. Therefore, the latest release focuses on accelerating production while preserving professional editing workflows and creative decision-making. The company continues to target filmmakers, VFX studios, game developers, and independent creators seeking faster content creation without sacrificing quality or flexibility.
