Snap to Launch Specs AI Smart Glasses at September Event

Snap Specs AI smart glasses

Snap will officially debut its Specs AI smart glasses during a launch event in Los Angeles on September 16. The company describes the device as “a wearable computer built into see-through augmented reality glasses.” Moreover, CEO Evan Spiegel will showcase how the glasses combine AI assistance, productivity tools, entertainment, and shared experiences in everyday environments.

The consumer-focused augmented reality glasses first appeared in June. However, the $2,195 price tag immediately attracted attention. The device features thick lenses, black polymer frames, and a rounded square design. In addition, users can add removable prescription inserts to match a wide range of vision needs.

Features Focus on AI and Augmented Reality

Specs include a built-in web browser, Bluetooth connectivity, and up to four hours of mixed-use battery life. Furthermore, the carrying case provides four additional charges for extended use. The glasses also use two Snapdragon processors, with one handling computer vision while the other powers Lenses, the company’s augmented reality applications.

Although the company has not confirmed the complete app lineup, it previously stated that “hundreds of developer-built Lenses” will be available to “unlock shared experiences.” Therefore, the platform aims to deliver a growing ecosystem of AR experiences after launch.

Early Reviews Highlight Weight Concerns

Several reviewers tested the glasses during Cannes Lions before the official release. However, some noted that the device’s weight could affect long-term comfort. At 132 grams, the glasses weigh significantly more than many competing smart glasses, which typically weigh about 50 grams.

The company will livestream the September 16 launch event for viewers worldwide. During the presentation, executives are expected to demonstrate the AI-powered features and provide additional details about the consumer rollout.
