Google Gemini App Nears One Billion Monthly Users
Google’s Gemini app has reached 950 million monthly active users, bringing it close to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which has around one billion monthly users. The milestone, announced during Alphabet’s second-quarter 2026 earnings, highlights Google’s rapid progress in the consumer AI market.
Moreover, Google said daily active users have tripled over the past year. CEO Sundar Pichai attributed the growth to continuous product updates, new AI capabilities, and deeper integration across Google’s ecosystem. As a result, Gemini has become one of the fastest-growing AI platforms worldwide.
User Growth Accelerates With New AI Features
Gemini’s expansion has been steady throughout the past year. In October 2025, Google reported about 650 million monthly active users. By February 2026, that figure had climbed past 750 million. Now, the app stands at 950 million monthly users, reflecting strong adoption across both mobile and desktop platforms.
Meanwhile, Google continues to enhance the app with new agentic features such as Daily Brief and Gemini Spark. These additions deliver personalized assistance, automate routine tasks, and strengthen Gemini’s role as a digital productivity companion. Furthermore, Google has expanded the platform’s availability across multiple countries and languages.
Faster Models Drive Wider Adoption
Google’s latest AI model releases have also supported Gemini’s momentum. This week, the company introduced Gemini 3.6 Flash, Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite, and Gemini 3.5 Flash Cyber. According to Google, the new models improve efficiency while reducing inference costs, making advanced AI capabilities more accessible to developers and enterprise customers.
At the same time, Google confirmed that development of Gemini 4 is already underway, although its frontier Gemini 3.5 Pro model remains delayed. Even so, the company continues to invest heavily in AI infrastructure and enterprise adoption. During the earnings call, Google revealed that nearly 90% of Fortune 100 companies now use Gemini Enterprise, underscoring the platform’s growing presence in business environments.
The latest figures suggest Google’s AI strategy is gaining momentum. Consequently, Gemini is emerging as one of the strongest challengers to ChatGPT while expanding its reach across consumer services, enterprise software, and Google’s broader ecosystem.
