Facebook and Instagram Suffer Major Global Outage Affecting Millions

Facebook and Instagram outage alert

Millions of users worldwide faced disruptions on Friday morning as Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp experienced a major outage. As a result, thousands of people reported login failures, blank feeds, and loading issues while engineers worked to restore services.

Widespread Disruptions Affect Users Worldwide

The outage began during the early morning hours and quickly spread across multiple regions. Consequently, users reported being logged out of their accounts and unable to sign back in. By 9 a.m. Eastern Time, outage-tracking data showed more than 100,000 reports related to Facebook, while nearly 10,000 Instagram users also reported issues with app functionality and login access.

Users encountered messages such as “something went wrong” and “query error.” In addition, many saw empty feeds and content that failed to load properly. Meanwhile, the company’s service status page showed high disruptions affecting Facebook Ads Manager. Engineering teams also confirmed they were aware of the issue and actively working toward a resolution.

Company Responds as Engineers Work on a Fix

Andy Stone, Vice President of Communications, acknowledged the outage and reassured users that teams were addressing the problem. He stated that the company was aware people were “having trouble accessing our services” and that engineers were working to restore normal operations.

However, the company did not provide a cause for the outage. Likewise, it did not share a timeline for full service restoration as of late Friday morning.

Latest Outage Continues a Troubling Trend

This incident adds to a growing list of service disruptions that have affected the company’s platforms in recent years. For example, a similar outage in December 2024 generated more than 100,000 user reports and required approximately five hours to resolve. Earlier, in March 2024, more than 500,000 Facebook users reported being logged out and receiving incorrect-password errors.

Furthermore, tracking data indicates that the company experienced at least 12 outage incidents during March 2026 alone. As a result, concerns continue to grow among users and businesses that depend on these platforms for communication, marketing, and daily operations.

For billions of users worldwide, each disruption highlights the risks associated with centralized digital platforms. At the same time, many continue to question the lack of detailed explanations when major outages occur.
