YouTube Adds AI Podcast Recommendations for Premium Users
YouTube has introduced several new podcast-focused features for Premium subscribers, including AI-powered podcast recommendations, an adaptive “Auto speed” playback option, and a simplified “On the Go” listening mode. As a result, the platform is strengthening its position against major podcast and streaming competitors.
The launch comes as podcast consumption continues to grow on the platform. In April 2026 alone, Premium subscribers watched more than 800 million hours of podcast content. Additionally, YouTube Podcasts now serves more than 1 billion monthly active users.
The new AI recommendation tool builds on the existing “Ask Music” feature, which already helps users create personalized radio stations and playlists. Now, users can request podcast suggestions based on genres, moods, or shows they already enjoy. Furthermore, the feature aligns with the platform’s broader effort to improve content discovery through conversational AI.
At the same time, signed-in users in the United States can access custom feeds that generate personalized video recommendations from text prompts. The feature is currently available on both mobile and desktop devices.
Smarter Listening Experience
The new “Auto speed” feature automatically adjusts playback speed depending on the pace and complexity of conversations. Consequently, listeners can follow discussions more naturally without relying on a fixed speed setting.
Meanwhile, the “On the Go” mode simplifies podcast controls for users who are commuting, exercising, or multitasking. The interface offers quick options for skipping forward or backward and moving directly to the next episode. Both features are available on Android devices, while iOS support is expected in the coming months.
Premium Value Amid Growing Competition
The latest additions arrive as competition for podcast audiences continues to intensify. At the same time, the platform recently confirmed its first Premium price increase since 2023. Individual subscriptions will rise to $15.99 per month beginning with the June 2026 billing cycle.
By introducing AI-driven discovery and listening tools, YouTube aims to enhance the overall Premium experience. As podcast engagement grows, these features could help strengthen the platform’s appeal among users who increasingly rely on it as their primary destination for podcast content.
