Gemini AI Now Creates PDFs, Word, and Excel Files Directly in Chat

Gemini AI exporting document file

The Gemini app can now generate and export downloadable files directly within a conversation. As a result, users no longer need to copy, paste, or reformat AI-generated content across different tools. Instead, they can request ready-to-use files in formats such as PDFs, Word documents, spreadsheets, and more, then download them instantly.

For example, a user can turn a budget into an Excel sheet or convert notes into a polished PDF without leaving the chat. Previously, users had to move content into another application and adjust formatting manually. Therefore, this update removes a common friction point and simplifies the workflow significantly. Moreover, it responds directly to one of the most frequent requests since the app first launched.

Global Rollout and Current Gaps

The feature is rolling out globally, and access began on April 29. However, some users may not see it immediately because availability is expanding تدريجيًا. Even so, most users should gain access soon as the rollout continues.

One limitation remains: direct export to Microsoft PowerPoint is not yet available. Nevertheless, users can still export presentations to Google Slides and then download them as PowerPoint files. Consequently, while the process involves an extra step, it still offers a workable solution.

Part of Ongoing Updates

This addition arrives as part of a broader series of updates released throughout April 2026. Earlier, new tools improved how users organize chats and projects, while also expanding creative features like image and music generation. In addition, updates enhanced integration across productivity tools, allowing AI-assisted drafting that pulls context from emails, chats, and stored files.

Furthermore, the file generation capability builds on those improvements by making outputs more actionable. It was first noticed on April 27, with early observations highlighting support for bundled ZIP files and an in-chat file directory. Altogether, these updates reflect a continued push to make AI outputs more practical and immediately usable.
