The UAE has launched the world’s first commercial upper 6GHz (U6GHz) network and ecosystem, marking a major step in advanced mobile infrastructure. As a result, the country strengthens its leadership in next-generation connectivity while setting the stage for future 6G development. Moreover, this move reflects a broader shift in how networks and regulations adapt to rising data demand and AI-driven traffic.
During the Leaders’ Summit 2026, officials emphasized ambitions to become a 10 Giga intelligent nation. In addition, they encouraged industry stakeholders, including chipmakers and device manufacturers, to support U6GHz commercialization. At the same time, multiple organizations committed to building a robust ecosystem, signaling strong collaboration across the telecom sector.
A dedicated policy and technology session also addressed deployment alignment. Consequently, stakeholders highlighted the importance of the upper 6GHz band for future mobile technologies. Eng. Tareq Al Awadhi stated: “The upper 6 GHz band is a key resource for IMT services and support future mobile technologies 5G Advanaced and it will be foundation for 6G. This first dialogue on deployment alignment among various stakeholders is both timely and necessary.”
Powering Digital Transformation and Industry Growth
U6GHz operates within the 6425–7125MHz range and offers 700MHz of continuous bandwidth. Therefore, it provides a balance between wide coverage and high-capacity performance. Often described as a “golden spectrum,” it plays a crucial role as networks evolve beyond traditional structures.
Meanwhile, AI adoption continues to accelerate across industries. As more systems process massive data volumes, networks must deliver faster and more reliable performance. Consequently, U6GHz supports both high-speed downlink and uplink capacity with low latency.
Estimates suggest that U6GHz can enable peak speeds of up to 10Gbps downlink and 1Gbps uplink under 5G-Advanced. Furthermore, it creates a strong foundation for the transition to 6G. In the UAE, this spectrum strengthens digital infrastructure across sectors such as finance, healthcare, and manufacturing.
From Trials to Commercial Reality
Recently, the global U6GHz ecosystem has shifted from testing to large-scale deployment. As vendors introduced compatible infrastructure, ecosystem players accelerated development efforts. At the same time, global operators completed field tests, confirming readiness for commercialization.
Bocar BA stated: “With this U6GHz ecosystem launch, the UAE has moved ahead of many markets in transitioning from trials to commercial rollouts, and it is a privilege that this development has taken place during the Leaders’ Summit 2026, an industry leadership meeting held during these challenging times in the regional context, to foster dialogue, build support for the ecosystem, and to signal continuity in efforts toward collaboration and development.”
Mr. Jawad Abbassi said, “The U6GHz ecosystem is now sufficiently ready to support commercial deployment. The band will play a central role in achieving 10Gbps connectivity and serve as an initial spectrum for future 6G networks. The Middle East can leverage U6GHz during the 5G-A phase to gain a first-mover advantage.”
The UAE’s progress builds on years of strategic planning. Following global agreements, authorities allocated the U6GHz band for mobile services in 2024. Subsequently, field tests in 2025 achieved 10Gbps speeds, paving the way for commercial rollout. As a result, the country has officially entered the U6GHz era.
Looking ahead, U6GHz deployment will expand across cities and economic zones. Consequently, businesses and residents will gain access to stable, ultra-fast connectivity. In addition, industries will benefit from applications such as remote healthcare, smart mobility, and immersive digital services. By 2028, widespread coverage is expected, supporting long-term economic growth and future 6G readiness.
