Elon Musk has officially launched Grokipedia, his new AI-driven encyclopedia. In an announcement on X, he stated that “Version 1.0 will be 10X better,” adding that “even at 0.1 it’s better than Wikipedia imo.” Users can explore the platform by searching for Grokipedia on Google or visiting Grokipedia.com.
The project was first teased in late September on Musk’s social media platform, where he described it as “a massive improvement over Wikipedia” and “a necessary step towards the xAI objective of understanding the Universe.” The minimalist homepage currently displays “Grokipedia v0.1” and a simple search bar that invites users to enter their queries.
This marks Musk’s latest move to integrate Grok, the AI system created by xAI, into a broader ecosystem that challenges mainstream digital platforms. Through Grokipedia, he aims to create what he views as a freer and more ideologically balanced alternative.
Early Glitches and Growing Criticism
Grokipedia’s early rollout was rocky. On Monday, Musk introduced version 0.1, but the site went offline shortly after going live. Despite Musk’s promotion of it as a less biased encyclopedia, it remained accessible for only about an hour before restricting access.
Initially, Grokipedia’s interface resembled Wikipedia’s, featuring entries on topics like ChatGPT, Diane Keaton, and the 2026 FIFA World Cup. However, its database appeared smaller and its editorial tone noticeably different. Some observers noted that the platform’s framing of topics seemed more right-leaning, particularly in politically charged subjects.
Reports from several outlets have criticized Grokipedia for amplifying far-right perspectives. They cited examples such as its definition of gender and its handling of issues related to transgender people. For instance, Grokipedia defines gender as “the binary classification of humans as male or female based on biological sex,” a stark contrast to Wikipedia’s broader interpretation. This difference highlights the site’s ideological stance and signals Musk’s intention to reshape how information is presented.
How Musk Is Portrayed on Grokipedia
Interestingly, Grokipedia’s entry on Elon Musk diverges significantly from his Wikipedia profile. It portrays his ventures in more positive terms, asserting that his work “emphasizes AI safety through truth-oriented development rather than heavy regulation.” The entry also claims that xAI’s initiatives reflect “rapid iteration” and “reduced censorship.” These statements are attributed to the company’s official website.
However, not all information appears accurate. The page contains an error regarding Ohio politician Vivek Ramaswamy, claiming he assumed a greater role in a U.S. initiative after leaving a government-affiliated project, a claim contradicted by public records.
Unlike Wikipedia’s traditional “Accolades” section, Grokipedia concludes with “Recognition and Long-Term Vision,” where it describes Musk’s goal of protecting human consciousness and promoting a multi-planetary civilization. This philosophical tone reflects Musk’s broader ambitions and underscores Grokipedia’s alignment with his vision of technological truth-seeking.
