Qualcomm Quick Charge 5 Plus Delivers Faster, Cooler Smartphone Charging

Quick Charge 5 Plus smartphone charging

A new charging solution called Quick Charge 5 Plus has been introduced to make smartphones charge faster while staying cooler. The upgrade comes after several years without a major update to the fast-charging standard. Like the earlier version, it still offers speeds of more than 100W. However, the key improvement lies in its ability to maintain lower temperatures, which results in a more consistent charging experience.

Because heat is one of the main causes of battery wear, Quick Charge 5 Plus also helps extend battery life. It does this by adjusting voltage and current intelligently. As a result, devices can sustain peak charging speeds for longer periods, with power delivery reaching up to 140W at 20V/7A.

Compatibility With Older and Non-Snapdragon Devices

One standout feature of Quick Charge 5 Plus is its backward compatibility. It supports all earlier versions of Quick Charge, going back to Quick Charge 2. This ensures that many modern smartphones released over the past decade can take advantage of it. Additionally, the technology is not limited to Snapdragon-powered devices. It also works with other platforms, including MediaTek and Exynos, delivering similar performance to competing chargers.

This wide compatibility expands its appeal across the Android ecosystem. Therefore, users with different chipsets can still expect faster, cooler, and safer charging without needing brand-specific accessories.

What to Expect Next

Although exact efficiency and speed gains have not been disclosed, devices that support the new standard will likely charge faster than before. The first smartphones featuring Quick Charge 5 Plus will debut at the Snapdragon Summit later this month, from September 23 to 25. Accessories, including chargers that support the standard, are also expected to arrive in the market before the end of the year.
