On Wednesday evening, Reddit encountered a significant outage that left thousands of users unable to access the platform. The disruption began around 9:30 PM IST (noon ET), affecting users across India and the United States. As a result, homepage feeds, subreddits, and comment sections failed to load for many users.
Both the Reddit website and mobile apps were impacted. Instead of content, users were met with a “no content to display” message. This prevented access to profiles, posts, and discussions, leaving communities across the platform temporarily silent.
Outage Data Shows Global Impact
Real-time tracking from DownDetector highlighted the scope of the issue. In India, over 2,500 users reported problems during the peak of the outage. Among them, 46% faced issues on the app, while 39% reported website troubles. Meanwhile, 15% struggled with server connectivity.
In contrast, the situation in the United States was more severe. Over 100,000 users logged complaints during the same period. Of these, 56% experienced app failures, 33% had issues loading the website, and 11% noted server-related problems.
These numbers underscore the widespread nature of the outage, affecting a broad user base across both countries.
Users Turn to Other Platforms Amid Silence
While Reddit continues working on restoring access, the platform remains partially inaccessible for many. Users have turned to alternate platforms such as X and Instagram to share their frustration and their humor. Memes and jokes about the situation have rapidly circulated, adding levity to the unexpected blackout.
Until full access is restored, users are encouraged to check Reddit’s status page or follow updates on its social media channels. Although the issue has been identified, there is still no confirmed timeline for complete resolution.
