The UAE and France have teamed up for an artificial intelligence (AI) investment partnership. This collaboration aims to boost the technology drive in the UAE and improve AI ecosystems in both countries. It includes developing talent and creating semiconductors. Moreover, The Abu Dhabi Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technology Council (AIATC) and France’s Ministry of Economy formalized the partnership with a preliminary agreement. Khaldoon Al Mubarak, a member of AIATC, and Bruno Le Maire, France’s Minister of Economy, signed the agreement.
This partnership will cover infrastructure for data centres and supercomputers, AI training, cloud and data, and start-up investments. It will also focus on AI applications in sectors like health, finance, software, retail, and industry. Bruno Le Maire said this partnership is expected to boost economic cooperation and be a “win-win” for both countries. He also mentioned that skill development will partly happen at the Abu Dhabi campus of France’s Sorbonne University.
The collaboration will involve the creation and production of chips for AI applications. Additionally, Mubadala, a UAE sovereign wealth fund, has access to this technology through its stake in US-based GlobalFoundries. The UAE aims to become a global AI leader. It is preparing for the future by partnering with technology majors from the West. In April, Microsoft announced a $1.5 billion investment in Abu Dhabi AI leader G42.
Mubadala has plans to make significant investments in AI and other new economic sectors. In March, Abu Dhabi set up a new technology investment company, MGX, with Mubadala and G42 as foundational partners. France also wants to boost its AI expertise. Also, the trade between the UAE and France hit €7 billion ($7.6 billion) in 2023 and is expected to increase this year. The UAE and France want to be examples of fruitful cooperation in AI. They aim to improve productivity, help people, and enhance life quality through AI.
