Google I/O 2023: Google launches global chatbot Bard to rival Microsoft’s AI

At the annual Google I/O conference held in Mountain View, California, Alphabet Inc’s Google introduced significant advancements in its core search product, aiming to match the excitement generated by Microsoft Corp’s relaunch of Bing. The latest iteration of Google’s search engine called the Search Generative Experience, incorporates advanced artificial intelligence capabilities.

The Search Generative Experience enables the search engine to generate responses to open-ended queries, while still presenting its familiar list of web links. This integration of generative AI extends beyond search and encompasses other Google products, including Gmail and Google Photos. For instance, AI can assist in composing draft messages in Gmail and perform substantial image alterations in Google Photos.

The initial rollout of the Search Generative Experience will be available to US consumers through a waitlist, during which Google will closely monitor the quality, speed, and cost-effectiveness of search results. Vice President Cathy Edwards emphasized the importance of this trial phase in ensuring a seamless user experience.

Alphabet’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, expressed the company’s dedication to reimagining its core products, with search being a key focus. By leveraging advanced AI technologies, Google aims to continually enhance its services and provide users with more intelligent and relevant search experiences.
