A notable issue has emerged in the YouTube mobile app: the YouTube Shorts autoplay bug. This bug forces the app to open and auto-play Shorts content upon launch, disrupting the usual user experience.

Identifying the Issue

Typically, YouTube opens to the homepage, displaying a mix of curated content. However, due to this bug, users are automatically directed to Shorts, even if it wasn’t the last viewed section. Reports indicate that the issue affects various devices, including the Nothing Phone (3a) and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The problem persists regardless of prior user activity within the app.

How to Fix the YouTube Shorts Autoplay Bug

Users can try the following solutions to resolve the issue:

1. Clear Cache and Storage

  • Open Settings on your device.
  • Go to Apps or Application Manager.
  • Select YouTube > Storage.
  • Tap Clear Cache and Clear Data.

Note: This resets the app, potentially fixing the bug. However, reopening Shorts may trigger the issue again.

2. Uninstall Updates

  • Open the Play Store and search for YouTube.
  • Tap Uninstall Updates to revert to the factory version.

Note: Since YouTube is a pre-installed app, full uninstallation isn’t possible. However, this method may help.

3. Avoid Opening Shorts

  • Refrain from accessing the Shorts tab until YouTube releases a fix.

The YouTube Shorts autoplay bug alters the app’s behavior and affects user experience. While manual troubleshooting provides temporary relief, a permanent fix from YouTube is expected. Users should apply these solutions and wait for an officialupdate to resolve the issue completely.
