X has introduced long-awaited widgets for iOS, enabling faster access to news, notifications, and key features. Previously, a Home Screen widget appeared briefly during an early iOS 14 preview, yet the feature never launched. Since then, the platform has undergone major changes, including rebranding, product expansion, and deeper AI integration. Now, with widgets finally available, X expands its presence across both the Home Screen and Lock Screen.
Home Screen and Lock Screen Widget Options
On the Home Screen, X currently offers a single widget called “X News Highlights.” This widget displays headlines from trending topics, and when tapped, it opens the full story inside the app. Additionally, the widget supports small, medium, and large formats, allowing flexible placement.
Meanwhile, the Lock Screen provides a wider selection of widgets. Users can track unread alerts through the “X Notifications” widget and view pending conversations using “X Messages.” In addition, X includes dedicated widgets for its AI assistant, Grok. One widget opens a text-based chat, while another enables voice interaction. Together, these options allow users to customize quick access based on their preferences.
Notifications Redesign Also in Progress
Alongside widget support, X is also developing a redesigned notifications page for iOS. Early previews suggest a more visual layout, which may improve clarity and engagement. However, the update remains under development. As a result, users may see further changes rolled out in upcoming releases.
Overall, the addition of widgets marks a practical upgrade for iOS users. Moreover, it signals continued efforts to deepen platform integration across Apple devices.
