Uber has announced the rollout of Senior Accounts and Simple Mode across the MENA region, marking a major step toward inclusive mobility for older adults. The new features are designed to make the Uber app easier and more accessible, helping seniors travel independently whether for medical visits, family gatherings, or grocery runs while giving their families added peace of mind.
Now available in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan, and Lebanon, Senior Accounts provide a streamlined experience tailored to the needs of older users. Notably, the older adult and the organizing family member don’t need to live in the same location, making the feature flexible and practical for cross-border families.
Designed for Simplicity, Built for Independence
Senior Accounts, available through Uber’s Family Profiles, offer a simplified version of the app with larger text, fewer steps, and easy-to-navigate buttons. Additionally, users can save favorite locations, use flexible payment options, and allow loved ones to track trips in real time. This ensures not only ease of use but also a sense of safety and connection throughout every journey.
For seniors who prefer to use Uber on their own, Simple Mode can be activated directly through the app’s accessibility settings. It offers the same simplified interface, empowering older adults to maintain full control of their account while navigating the app more easily.
Importantly, these features help address common mobility challenges in the region. Public transportation can often be difficult for seniors to access due to distance, limited schedules, and extreme weather. Uber’s new tools bridge this gap, giving seniors a convenient, tech-enabled alternative for staying connected and independent.
How Senior Accounts Work for Families
Setting up a Senior Account is simple and intuitive. A family member begins by creating a Family Profile in the Uber app and inviting an older adult to join as a senior. That person then receives a text with a link to download the app and create their profile. Once enrolled, they can book trips independently or allow family members to assist as needed.
Even if someone isn’t added to a Family Profile, they can still benefit from Simple Mode. By enabling this feature through the app’s accessibility menu, older adults gain access to an easier-to-use interface while retaining full autonomy over their rides and account settings.
This thoughtful design approach allows for flexibility, whether users want to ride solo or prefer occasional help. It also gives caregivers and family members confidence that their loved ones can navigate the city safely and efficiently.
A Global Vision for Inclusive Mobility
Uber’s expansion of Senior Accounts and Simple Mode in the MENA region follows successful launches in the United States, Brazil, Chile, and Mexico. The features were developed in close collaboration with older riders and accessibility advocates to ensure they address real-world challenges and preferences.
By making its platform more inclusive, Uber is reaffirming its commitment to creating technology that supports people at every stage of life. These new offerings help seniors maintain independence while staying connected with family an especially meaningful contribution in a region where intergenerational care is deeply valued.
Through this initiative, Uber continues to reduce barriers to mobility, ensuring that its services work for everyone; teens, adults, and now, more confidently than ever, older adults.
