UAE’s Transport Centre teams up with Google to supercharge AI data and tech

The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) of the Department of Municipalities and Transport in Abu Dhabi has entered into two agreements with Google. The collaboration aims to advance the UAE’s AI priorities in research and sustainability.

Under the agreements, the ITC announced two initiatives. The first is Project Green Light, which employs AI techniques to collect and analyze traffic data at intersections, offering recommendations to optimize traffic lights and reduce congestion and CO2 emissions. The second initiative involves utilizing Google’s AI Platform to analyze big data from Google Maps, enabling the prediction and proactive management of traffic congestion areas.

Furthermore, the ITC will receive real-time data on accidents and traffic congestion from Google Maps. The agreements were signed by the Executive Director of the ITC’s ITS Sector, Mohamed Hussain Karmastaji, and Google’s SVP & Chief Business Officer, Philipp Schindler.

The agreements emphasize cooperation in utilizing AI to enhance the quality of life in Abu Dhabi, reduce pollution, and design innovative transportation solutions. Karmastaji highlighted that the collaboration with Google will yield real-time benefits for road users, and Project Green Light aims to optimize traffic lights and improve air quality by reducing congestion and carbon emissions.
