UAE Tops Global Fibre-To-Home Network Coverage

UAE achieves highest global fibre-to-home internet coverage rate.

The United Arab Emirates has once again secured its position as the global leader in fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network coverage. According to the latest report by the FTTH Council Europe, based on 2024 data, the UAE achieved a remarkable coverage rate of 99.5 percent. This marks yet another year at the top for the nation, which has maintained its leading position since 2016.

Notably, the UAE outperformed global contenders such as the Republic of Korea, which secured second place with 96.6 percent, and China, which followed closely at 93.6 percent. Hong Kong came in fifth, recording 89.9 percent coverage. These figures highlight the UAE’s consistent progress in delivering cutting-edge telecommunications infrastructure.

Pioneering the Future with Fibre

Driving this success is e& UAE, a company that plays a central role in shaping the country’s telecommunications sector. With an expansive fibre-optic network stretching over 14.5 million kilometres—more than 360 times the Earth’s circumference—the company has enabled high-speed internet access for over 2.88 million homes nationwide. Clearly, this reflects its ongoing commitment to its “Fibre-First” strategy, aimed at offering premium digital experiences.

Furthermore, the company’s efforts go beyond national coverage. Its forward-looking initiatives include services like Fibre-to-the-Yacht (FTTY) and Fibre-to-the-Room (FTTR). These innovations not only cater to niche segments such as marinas but also enhance in-home connectivity for smart living environments. As a result, e& UAE is helping build a foundation for the country’s digital transformation.

A Legacy of Vision and Progress

Masood M. Sharif Mahmood, CEO of e& UAE, explained that this milestone is the result of long-term dedication. Fibre-optic technology was first introduced into the UAE’s transport network in 1986. Later, in 2011, Abu Dhabi became the world’s first capital fully covered by a fibre-optic network. Such achievements underscore the UAE’s early and continued investment in digital infrastructure.

This progress aligns with the national vision set by the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority. By enhancing digital infrastructure and promoting smart technologies, the UAE continues to position itself as a global hub for innovation and connectivity.
