UAE launches ALiF, First National AI Literacy Framework

UAE officials launch ALiF framework during Dubai AI Week 2025 event.

Dubai has taken a bold step toward digital transformation with the launch of the Artificial Intelligence Literacy Framework (ALiF). Introduced during Dubai AI Week 2025, the initiative aims to elevate AI understanding across key sectors. Backed by the Dubai Centre for Artificial Intelligence and developed at the Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU), ALiF is the first national AI literacy framework in the UAE.

This program begins with a free online course, the AI Launchpad, designed to make AI concepts accessible to all. From there, participants can explore five specialized tracks tailored to learners, educators, researchers, clinicians, and administrators. Each track is available in three levels Foundation, Intermediate, and Advanced ensuring accessibility regardless of prior knowledge. As AI continues to influence everyday operations, ALiF offers timely, role-relevant tools for engagement.

Building Responsible AI Skills Across Sectors

According to Alawi Alsheikh-Ali, Chief Academic Officer at Dubai Health, the framework is essential as AI increasingly shapes both routine and complex professional decisions. “ALiF equips all learners with the understanding and confidence to engage with AI in ways that are both informed and responsible,” he noted. Notably, the framework prioritizes ethical use and decision-making.

Though initially designed for healthcare, research, and education, ALiF’s scope is expected to broaden. This aligns seamlessly with Dubai’s overarching vision for digital advancement. The structured tracks also encourage long-term learning, supporting professionals at every stage of their careers. Moreover, ALiF emphasizes real-world application, making it a practical tool in the workforce rather than just another academic resource.

A Continuation of Inclusive Education Initiatives

ALiF’s launch follows the success of MBRU’s previous outreach, including the COVID-era Community Immunity Ambassador program, which engaged over a million participants. With similar ambition, ALiF aims to foster a community of AI-literate individuals ready to meet the challenges of tomorrow.

As more industries integrate AI, frameworks like ALiF will become indispensable. In essence, Dubai isn’t just keeping pace with AI, it’s helping to lead the way.
