The UAE Government has launched the ‘Data Index’, a new benchmark designed to enhance government performance and track the management and governance of national data. Developed by the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Centre (FCSC) in partnership with the Prime Minister’s Office at the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs, the index aligns with global best practices and standards in statistics and data management.
The Data Index enables federal government entities to manage and provide high-quality, globally standardized data and statistics, contributing to the UAE’s ‘Performance Management System’. Unveiled at an event hosted by FCSC, the launch was attended by 120 data experts from 35 federal government entities.
The initiative coincides with the UAE’s “Unified UAE Numbers” project, aimed at improving transparency, data accuracy, and driving progress across economic, demographic, social, and environmental sectors. These efforts reflect the UAE’s ambition to be a global leader in using data for strategic decision-making and sustainable development.
Mohammed Hassan, Executive Director of the Statistics and Data Science Sector at FCSC, explained that the Data Index covers three critical areas: governance frameworks for data, the application of best statistical practices to improve data quality, and digital transformation projects to streamline data production processes within federal entities. This approach ensures the reliability and quality of data, supporting effective decision-making across all levels.
