Emirates Driving Company (EDC) in Abu Dhabi has launched the country’s first carbon-neutral driving training programme, called Green Drive. Developed in partnership with Abu Dhabi-based climate-tech company CarbonSifr, the initiative reflects a growing push for smarter and more sustainable mobility solutions.

The programme offers students a hands-on driving experience while maintaining net-zero carbon emissions. By integrating environmental responsibility into practical learning, Green Drive marks a step forward in the UAE’s commitment to climate action. This effort also aligns with the broader goals of promoting cleaner transportation alternatives.

How Carbon-Neutral Training Works

CarbonSifr uses globally recognised carbon accounting standards to measure emissions from each student’s training sessions. These calculations consider several factors, including fuel type, driving distance, and vehicle usage. Once emissions are measured, they are entirely offset by investing in verified environmental projects that focus on permanent carbon removal.

Importantly, this carbon offsetting is provided at no extra cost to students. Upon completing their training, students receive a certificate that acknowledges their role in promoting sustainable driving practices. This transparent process makes climate-conscious learning more accessible to future drivers.

A Scalable, Inclusive Green Initiative

Initially, Green Drive is being offered to students enrolled in EDC’s VIP car licence packages. However, plans are in place to expand the programme to other vehicle types and training tiers. This flexibility means the initiative can be applied across both conventional and alternative fuel vehicles.

By making the programme adaptable and inclusive, EDC reinforces its long-term sustainability goals. The company has also earned a AAA rating in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) performance demonstrating its leadership in responsible business practices across the region.
