UAE combats 200,000 Daily Cyberattacks with Nonstop Vigilance
Cybersecurity in the UAE is under immense pressure as the country combats an average of 200,000 cyberattacks every day. Despite the volume and growing complexity of threats, government entities work tirelessly to ensure national safety. According to Mohamed Al Kuwaiti, the UAE’s head of cybersecurity, attackers are increasingly targeting smart cities and digital infrastructures that form the backbone of modern society.
These cyberattacks are not just random digital intrusions. Instead, they pose real risks to essential sectors such as healthcare, aviation, energy, and public utilities. To counter this, the UAE continuously runs drills and training exercises designed to detect and respond to intrusions quickly and effectively.
AI is Both a Tool and a Threat
With the rapid development of artificial intelligence, cyber threats have evolved significantly. Al Kuwaiti highlighted that while AI strengthens security frameworks, it also empowers malicious actors. “As we use AI for protection, others use AI for attack,” he explained. Because of this dual use, cybersecurity teams must remain adaptable and innovative.
Phishing remains a prevalent method of attack, often exploiting human error. Al Kuwaiti noted that social engineering tricking individuals into revealing confidential information continues to be a leading tactic. Therefore, while technical defences are critical, human awareness and caution play a major role in preventing breaches.
To address this, the UAE is investing heavily in cyber education. Awareness campaigns and skill development programmes are being rolled out across various sectors. Importantly, these efforts focus on both professionals and the younger generation, ensuring a future-ready workforce capable of handling sophisticated cyber threats.
A National Strategy for a Safer Digital Future
In February 2025, the UAE Cabinet approved the National Cybersecurity Strategy, marking a major step forward. This five-year plan is built on five key pillars designed to foster a secure and resilient digital infrastructure. The strategy prioritises innovation while ensuring that security keeps pace with technological advancement.
Ultimately, the UAE’s approach combines advanced technology, human readiness, and long-term policy planning. As cyberattacks become more advanced, this multifaceted defence strategy ensures the country remains protected and digitally sovereign.
