UAE Approves AI Plan To Develop Smarter Laws
The United Arab Emirates has launched a groundbreaking initiative to enhance its legislative process through artificial intelligence. Announced by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum during a UAE Cabinet meeting in Abu Dhabi, the country will now develop and monitor laws using an advanced AI system. This marks a global first in smart governance and positions the UAE as a pioneer in AI-driven legislation.
The Cabinet approved the first integrated regulatory intelligence ecosystem within the government. Unlike traditional methods, this AI-based model offers a proactive approach, enabling the UAE to respond swiftly to global shifts in economics, politics, technology, and society. According to Sheikh Mohammed, the system will help track how laws impact citizens and the economy on a daily basis. Importantly, it will also suggest timely updates, reducing legislative delays.
Smarter, Faster, More Precise Lawmaking
The new system connects federal and local laws with judicial rulings, executive actions, and public services. Additionally, it links with leading international research centres to ensure that UAE laws stay aligned with global standards. Although it leverages foreign insights, the platform is tailored to preserve the UAE’s cultural identity and development goals.
Crucially, this AI-driven process will cut the time required for drafting, researching, and passing laws by up to 70 percent. While manual legislative processes have often been slow and reactive, this system brings in real-time monitoring and updates. Because of this, the UAE can now transition from static legal codes to dynamic and adaptive regulations.
Establishing the Regulatory Intelligence Office
To oversee the initiative, the UAE Cabinet approved the formation of the Regulatory Intelligence Office under the General Secretariat. This office will coordinate efforts across federal, local, and private sectors. It will also manage the largest national legislative database, integrating laws, government processes, and field systems into a unified platform.
