Threads has rolled out a new feature designed to increase transparency on the platform. The “Account Status” feature, previously exclusive to Instagram, is now available on Threads, allowing users to see when their posts are removed, demoted, or restricted. This feature is designed to help users understand the actions taken against their content and profiles, ensuring they are informed about how the platform enforces its community standards.
The feature provides clarity on whether a post was removed entirely, limited in reach, or reduced in visibility, helping users stay aware of moderation actions. Threads’ goal is to offer users more insight into why certain actions are taken, particularly when content is flagged for violating community guidelines.
How the Account Status Works
With the new Account Status feature, users can access detailed information about their posts and profile status directly from the app. By navigating to Settings > Account > Account Status, users can view any action taken on their content, such as removal or demotion, if it goes against Threads’ community standards.
The platform can take several actions against content, including removing posts, lowering visibility in feeds, and limiting the content’s reach. Users can also see if specific features have been disabled. If users feel that moderation actions were made in error, they have the option to file a request for review. Once reviewed, the user will receive a notification with the outcome of the review.
Global Application and AI Content Policy
Threads has emphasized that its community standards apply globally, regardless of content origin. This includes content generated by artificial intelligence (AI). While freedom of expression remains a priority, the platform prioritizes authenticity, dignity, privacy, and safety, sometimes limiting content for the greater good. However, if a piece of content is deemed newsworthy or in the public interest, it might be allowed even if it contradicts community guidelines.
Ultimately, this feature aims to foster a more transparent and accountable platform, offering users more control over the content they share and how it is moderated.
