The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has made a noteworthy announcement regarding registering a new patent for a state-of-the-art adhesive device designed specifically for 3D printers. The device, developed by DEWA’s Research and Development Centre (R&D), ensures the secure distribution of adhesive material onto the 3D printing plate, ensuring that the printed material adheres effectively to the build plate. This marks the seventh patent registered by DEWA’s R&D Centre. It has made significant contributions to the scientific community through its 134 research papers presented at international scientific conferences, journals, and peer-reviewed publications.
The CEO of DEWA, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, highlighted that this achievement aligns with DEWA’s efforts to establish advanced infrastructure and specialise in the field of 3D printing and additive manufacturing. The company utilises 3D printing technology for the production of prototypes and spare parts for its divisions that deal with generation, transmission, and distribution, and also to digitise its inventory.
The R&D Centre’s work aligns with the 10X initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, which seeks to make Dubai a global leaders that is ten years ahead of all other cities. The initiative supports the Dubai 3D Printing Strategy, aimed at establishing Dubai as a world hub for 3D printing technology by 2030.
Waleed Bin Salman, the Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence at DEWA, stated that the R&D Centre has augmented the scientific community through its specialised research and has enabled the development of the capabilities of its researchers. This has further consolidated Dubai’s position as a global hub for research and development in the fields of solar power, smart grids, water and energy efficiency, and capacity building in these areas.
