Tesla’s long-awaited 1950s-themed diner and Supercharger station in Los Angeles is finally opening its doors today. Visitors can enjoy classic comfort food like burgers and fries served in Cybertruck-shaped boxes, along with milkshakes. Meanwhile, their cars charge nearby. Giant screens at the diner let guests watch movie clips, though they can also choose to view entertainment directly from their Tesla vehicles.
Interestingly, a Tesla Optimus robot was spotted serving popcorn during a recent soft launch event. This unique blend of dining and technology highlights Tesla’s innovative approach. Essentially, the diner acts as a living advertisement for the company’s brand and products.
Elon Musk Eyes Expansion If Diner Succeeds
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has indicated that if this retro diner “turns out well,” the company plans to build more in major cities. Additionally, similar spots may appear at Supercharger locations along long-distance routes. Musk tweeted, “An island of good food, good vibes & entertainment, all while Supercharging!”
This initiative comes amid recent challenges for Tesla. The brand has faced setbacks due to Musk’s deteriorating relationship with former President Trump and a drop in sales. Therefore, the diner could serve as a fresh, engaging way to reconnect with customers and strengthen Tesla’s image.
A Long Road to Launch
Musk first announced his plan for an “old school drive-in, roller skates & rock restaurant” at a Tesla Supercharger site in Los Angeles back in January 2018. Shortly after, Tesla filed for the necessary permits. However, progress slowed significantly over the years. Although Musk promised in 2023 that the diner would open “later this year,” details such as the chef weren’t revealed until early 2025.
Now that the diner is set to open, it will be interesting to see how customers respond. If successful, it may signal a new chapter for Tesla’s brand experience, blending nostalgia, technology, and sustainability.
