Recent code discoveries by tech sleuths suggest that Spotify is gearing up to introduce a high-fidelity music tier. MacRumors, with the help of developer Aaron Perris, has verified that the beta version of Spotify’s iPhone app now includes references to 24-bit/44.1 kHz lossless streaming.
One of the in-app code snippets reads:
“Introducing the best sound quality on Spotify: for music in up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz.”
The upcoming tier, believed to be part of a “Music Pro” subscription—is expected to offer lossless streaming and downloads directly from the Spotify app. Bloomberg’s Lucas Shaw previously reported that Spotify’s Music Pro plan may also include remix tools and concert ticket access, potentially priced at an additional $5.99 per month above the standard Premium subscription.
While Spotify first teased its “HiFi” tier in 2021, it has yet to officially deliver the feature. Meanwhile, Apple Music rolled out lossless audio to its users at no extra cost in the same year, supporting up to 24-bit/192 kHz quality.
Spotify’s delayed entry and likely price tag may raise eyebrows, but for audiophiles and die-hard fans, the promise of studio-quality sound could be worth the wait.
Stay tuned, Spotify’s long-promised high-res sound may finally be hitting your iPhone this year.
