Spotify Launches Audio Versions of Long-Form Magazine Articles
Spotify has introduced a new feature that allows users to listen to narrated versions of long-form magazine articles directly inside the app. As a result, the platform is further expanding its audiobook offerings while also moving deeper into audio journalism.
The feature is launching across all 22 markets where Spotify Audiobooks currently operate. Additionally, Premium subscribers can access narrated articles at no extra cost through their monthly audiobook listening allowance. Free users, however, must purchase articles individually for AED 7.31 ($1.99).
Over 650 Articles Available in Audio Format
According to the platform, every narrated article remains under two hours long. Therefore, listeners can easily consume the content during workouts, commutes, or daily routines. The library already includes more than 650 articles from publications such as Rolling Stone, Vogue, WIRED, GQ, The Atlantic, Variety, and Billboard. Currently, all narrated articles are available only in English.
Moreover, the company said the feature aims to bridge the gap between podcasts and audiobooks by introducing longer-form journalism in an accessible audio format. At the same time, the service hopes listeners will discover deeper stories connected to entertainment, artists, technology, and culture.
Feature Rolls Out Across Multiple Global Markets
The rollout includes countries such as the US, UK, Canada, Australia, France, Germany, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and South Africa, along with several other audiobook-supported markets.
Colleen Prendergast, Licensing Lead for Spotify Audiobooks at Spotify, said the company sees audio journalism as a natural extension of the content users already consume on the platform.
