Snapchat’s AI chatbot receives mixed reviews from users

Snapchat has launched an AI chatbot feature called My AI, which is powered by OpenAI’s GPT technology. The tool is pinned to the top of users’ chat feeds, and only paid subscribers can remove it. Some users have criticised its prominence and confusion has emerged over how the app uses location data. However, Snap has called it an “experimental, friendly chatbot” which can answer questions, offer advice, and plan trips.

Despite admitting that the tool may not always be accurate and its responses may contain biased or misleading content, Snap said that the “vast majority” of early access users had been enjoying the feature, with millions of messages sent per day. My AI has been rolled out to millions of users globally, following its initial release to paid subscribers. By subscribing to Snapchat+ for £3.99 per month, users can access customisation features, including the ability to pin and unpin features such as My AI.

Snapchat’s introduction of My AI has generated mixed reviews, with some users critical of its prominent position on the app, and confusion arising over its use of location data. However, the chatbot has also been popular with many users, with millions of messages sent per day, according to Snap. The company has acknowledged that the tool may not always provide accurate responses, and may contain biased or misleading content. My AI is available to millions of users worldwide, having been introduced first to paid subscribers, who can access customisation features such as pinning and unpinning My AI by subscribing to Snapchat+.
