Snapchat has launched a new in-app project in partnership with the Palace of Versailles, offering visitors an engaging historical experience. Titled Dansez Versailles, the initiative transforms sections of the palace gardens into interactive AR experiences. Each stop on the AR map presents a baroque dance linked to that specific area, viewable through Snapchat’s camera.
According to Snap, this collaboration aims to “restore the gardens of the Palace to their original function: a space for life, pleasure, and spectacle.” As a result, visitors can step into the roles of historic dancers, blending education with entertainment. This immersive journey makes it easier for users to connect with French heritage while exploring the grounds in a fresh, creative way.
Snap Expands Its Cultural Footprint
Over the years, Snap has supported several digital art initiatives. Previously, it collaborated with institutions such as the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco. Additionally, artists like Jeffrey Koons, Damien Hirst, and KAWS have worked with Snap on other AR installations.
With this new launch, Snap continues to support cultural storytelling through technology. Furthermore, the company seeks to expand its presence in France, which currently represents its largest user base in the EU with 27 million users. By aligning with local institutions and artistic heritage, Snapchat aims to deepen its connection with French audiences.
Strengthening Snap’s Local Presence
Earlier this year, Snap opened a new office in Paris. The move signaled a commitment to long-term growth in the French market. This AR project builds on that momentum by combining local culture with innovative tech.
In the end, Snapchat’s ongoing investment in artistic AR content not only promotes creativity but also reinforces its position as a tech-forward cultural partner in Europe.
