Snapchat has launched its own chatbot called “My AI,” which is powered by OpenAI’s generative text tool, ChatGPT? According to the company’s press release, the chatbot is currently only available to Snapchat+ subscribers, who pay $3.99 per month for exclusive access to new features. My AI can provide users with recommendations for birthday gifts, plan a weekend trip, suggest dinner recipes, or even write a haiku about cheese for their cheddar-loving friend.
However, Snapchat warns that My AI “is prone to hallucination and can be tricked into saying just about anything.” The company advises users not to share any sensitive information with the chatbot and to use it for entertainment purposes only. Additionally, user discussions with My AI will be recorded and reviewed by the company to ensure accuracy.
Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel has expressed that the company intends to integrate AI into its messaging service to enable users to talk to AI every day. The bot will eventually be accessible to all 750 million monthly Snapchat users, Spiegel added.
The chatbot has been designed to follow the company’s trust and safety policies and to avoid responding with profanity, violence, sexual content, or political views. Despite its limitations, My AI represents Snapchat’s efforts to incorporate AI technology into its platform to provide users with personalized experiences and new features.
