Sharjah Launches New Space and Astronomy Complex to Boost Research

Sharjah space and astronomy complex

Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi has issued an Emiri Decree to establish the Sharjah Space and Astronomy Complex. As a result, the emirate takes a significant step toward advancing scientific research and innovation.

According to the decree, the complex will function as a specialized institution focused on space science and astronomy. Furthermore, it will operate under the supervision of University of Sharjah. Therefore, the initiative reinforces the emirate’s commitment to strengthening academic and research capabilities in emerging scientific fields.

Structure, Governance, and Integration

The decree also outlines a clear governance framework for the new complex. Specifically, the President of the University of Sharjah will define its objectives, structure, and operations. In addition, this includes overseeing scientific programs, administrative systems, and long-term strategy.

At the same time, the restructuring aims to unify existing efforts. All employees, assets, and responsibilities from the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences and Technology will transfer to the new complex. Consequently, this move will streamline operations and improve efficiency across space-related initiatives.

Moreover, authorities have repealed Law No. (2) of 2019, which previously governed the academy. As a result, the new framework replaces earlier regulations with a more integrated structure.
