Saudi Arabia Reports 70% Surge in Cloud Computing Service Registrations
RIYADH — Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Commerce has revealed a remarkable 70% increase in commercial registrations for cloud computing services during the fourth quarter of 2024. This surge highlights the Kingdom’s growing emphasis on technology-driven economic activities and its potential for future growth in the digital domain.
By the end of Q4 2024, the number of commercial registrations in the cloud computing sector reached 3,005, up from 1,759 in the same period of 2023. The Riyadh region led this growth with 1,900 registrations, followed by Makkah with 575, the Eastern Province with 329, Madinah with 72, and Asir with 37.
Other sectors also witnessed substantial growth during this period. Registrations in application development activities grew by 36%, with 15,800 registrations recorded compared to 11,600 in 2023. The Riyadh region dominated with 9,700 registrations, followed by Makkah (3,200), the Eastern Province (1,600), Madinah (467), and Asir (249).
FinTech solutions activity saw a 12% rise in commercial registrations, reaching 3,152 in 2024, up from 2,795 in 2023. Riyadh again led with 1,900 registrations, followed by Makkah (636), the Eastern Province (309), Madinah (86), and Qassim (44).
As of now, the Kingdom boasts over 1.6 million commercial registrations, with 30% attributed to women-owned businesses and 38% owned by young entrepreneurs. These statistics underline the dynamic shift toward a digitally driven economy and the Kingdom’s vision to foster innovation across diverse sectors.
