Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has significantly cut the number of vehicle licensing services it offers from 54 down to 14. This 74% reduction is part of a broader effort to enhance digital access and service efficiency across the emirate. As Dubai pushes forward with digital transformation, the move reflects a strategy to offer customers a seamless, secure, and user-friendly experience.
According to Ahmed Mahboob, CEO of RTA’s Licensing Agency, this initiative supports Dubai’s goal of providing proactive, integrated services that improve residents’ quality of life. Moreover, it plays a vital role in the wider ‘360 Comprehensive Services’ plan. Mahboob noted, “This step is part of an integrated vision built on a holistic methodology that targets key areas and efficiently helps Dubai’s strategic goals of delivering seamless, proactive, and personalized services.”
Simplified Processes, Faster Service Delivery
To reduce hassle for customers, RTA has redesigned its licensing procedures. Now, fewer steps and reduced physical visits are needed to complete many tasks. For instance, the Request for Vehicle Registration Certificate which previously required 13 separate service interactions is now processed in a single, streamlined transaction.
Similarly, six services related to vehicle export and transfer are now merged into one: Vehicle Registration Cancellation. This consolidation aims to shorten wait times and simplify navigation through RTA’s service offerings. In addition, the services are now more deeply integrated with the Dubai Now app, contributing to smoother user journeys across government platforms.
Driving Toward a Digitally Integrated City
The digital transformation is supported by advanced technologies and data-sharing frameworks across local and federal entities. A standout feature is the use of UAE Pass, enabling electronic signatures and single-gateway access to all RTA digital services. This innovation benefits vehicle owners, drivers, and public transport users alike.
“The integration of services reflects a firm commitment to raising service standards for both individual and corporate clients, in line with top international benchmarks,” Mahboob stated. Furthermore, the initiative aligns with Dubai’s ambition to be recognized globally for smart mobility, innovation, and sustainability.
While improving service quality, the RTA’s approach also reduces bureaucracy and supports environmental goals demonstrating that efficient government services and sustainability can go hand in hand.
