Meta Platforms, Inc. and EssilorLuxottica have officially launched the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses in the UAE, showcasing the latest in wearable technology during a private event on May 7 at Gitano Beach Club, Dubai. Starting May 12, the advanced eyewear will be available across all Ray-Ban outlets and authorised opticians in the UAE.
The new smart glasses allow users to capture high-quality photos and videos, listen to music discreetly, interact with Meta AI, and even livestream directly to social media—all hands-free. The launch event brought together regional influencers and celebrities including Yusra Mardini, Joelle Mardinian, Omar Farooq, Pia Jauncey, and Nora and Khalid, while music by Sarah Hardan and DJ Pascal Moscheni added to the immersive atmosphere.
High-Tech Features Meet Everyday Functionality
The Ray-Ban Meta lineup includes signature frames like Wayfarer, Wayfarer Large, and the inclusive Skyler model—now available in Shiny Chalky Grey. Designed for both style and performance, these glasses integrate a 12MP ultrawide camera capable of capturing 1080p portrait videos, offering a seamless way to create content from a first-person perspective.
With discreet open-ear speakers, the audio system enhances bass and reduces noise, delivering a clear and immersive listening experience without blocking ambient sound. Five integrated microphones enable users to effortlessly switch between music and calls, while staying connected to their environment.
One of the standout innovations is the livestreaming capability—wearers can broadcast in real-time on Instagram Live or Facebook Live using the glasses’ camera, switching between devices for up to 30 minutes. This feature provides creators with a new level of authenticity in storytelling.
Meta AI Integration and Future Updates
The glasses are powered by Meta AI, accessible through the voice command “Hey Meta.” Users can ask for directions, get playlist suggestions, translate foreign text, learn about local landmarks, or even receive recipe ideas—all without needing to pull out a phone.
Meta plans to roll out live translation support in the UAE later this spring. With pre-downloaded language packs, users will be able to have offline conversations across Spanish, French, Italian, and English—even in airplane mode—bridging communication gaps in real-time.
With regular software updates, the glasses will gain new capabilities over time, enhancing their functionality long after purchase.
Customisable Style with Smart Utility
Combining iconic design with high-performance technology, the Ray-Ban Meta collection is available in a range of colours, frame sizes, and lens types—including prescription, clear, sun, polarized, and Transitions® lenses. All variants are crafted with comfort, clarity, and protection in mind.
Each pair comes with a portable charging case for convenient power on the go. The collection also benefits from an enhanced Meta View companion app (available for iOS and Android), allowing users to edit content, apply effects, and manage multiple glasses through a single interface.
The smart glasses start at a recommended retail price of AED 1,330, offering a stylish yet powerful tool for content creation, productivity, and entertainment.
