PayPal has introduced a new peer-to-peer payment option called PayPal Links. This feature allows people to send or request money using personalized, one-time links. Unlike PayPal Me, which connects to a profile but not a specific amount, PayPal Links simplify transactions by letting users input the exact sum and generate a private link tied to that payment.
The process is straightforward. Users open the PayPal app, enter the payment details, and create a one-time link. They can then copy and share it in chats, texts, or direct messages. The recipient simply taps the link to send or receive funds instantly in the PayPal app. Links remain valid for 10 days, though senders can cancel or resend reminders at any time.
This design reduces the number of steps and eliminates the need to verify another person’s profile. Therefore, PayPal Links are well-suited for one-time transactions where speed and simplicity matter.
Expansion Plans and Crypto Integration
Initially, PayPal Links will roll out in the U.S. Later this month, they will expand to other regions including the U.K. and Italy, with further markets to follow. The company also announced that crypto support is on the horizon. Soon, users will be able to send Bitcoin, Ethereum, PYUSD, and other supported coins to PayPal, Venmo, and compatible digital wallets.
This upcoming integration signals a major step in bringing digital assets into everyday payments. As a result, PayPal aims to connect traditional financial transactions with emerging crypto ecosystems.
Practical Use and Regulatory Notes
These new links are intended for real-world interactions such as splitting costs, reimbursing friends, or completing small purchases. By focusing on simple link-based transactions, PayPal broadens the usability of its payment system across daily conversations.
It is also important to note that personal payments remain exempt from 1099-K reporting requirements. This detail may reassure users who want to manage casual transfers without additional tax reporting. Together, these changes highlight PayPal’s intent to make payments more seamless while aligning with evolving financial trends.
