OpenAI and Anthropic Offer Double Usage Limits in New Year Promotion

As part of year-end promotions, two major AI providers are temporarily increasing usage limits for select users of their coding tools. Specifically, one platform has reset and doubled rate limits for its AI-powered coding agent until January 1, 2026. Meanwhile, another provider is offering a similar benefit to eligible subscribers during the final week of the year. As a result, developers and power users gain more flexibility during a traditionally busy period.

Details of the Temporary Increases

According to a post shared on X, a Member of Technical Staff said, “For Codex users, to thank you all for the fun we’ve had over the last months, our first gift is that we have reset rate limits and are lifting the usage limits to 2X the usual limits until the 1st of Jan.” Additionally, the coding agent supports end-to-end development from text prompts or images. It also works as a CLI, within ChatGPT, and as an IDE extension in Visual Studio Code and Cursor.

Similarly, the official account of the other platform announced its offer, stating, “Starting at midnight PT tonight, all Pro and Max plans have 2x their usual usage limits through New Year’s Eve.” Furthermore, the promotion applies across mobile, desktop, and web platforms. However, Team and Enterprise plans do not qualify for this increase.

Importantly, individual subscribers, including new sign-ups during the promotional window, can access the doubled limits. Once the offer ends, usage caps will revert to standard levels for each plan. Meanwhile, these promotions arrive as AI services continue refining metering systems that manage consumption through rolling windows and weekly caps. Consequently, the offers mainly target developers and professionals who frequently reach existing limits during intensive workloads.
