Oman has made significant strides in its digital transformation initiative. By the end of September 2023, the government achieved a 53 percent completion rate. This progress was announced by H.E. Dr. Ali bin Amer al Shidhani, undersecretary for Communications and Information Technology in Oman’s Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology.
Dr. Al Shidhani also highlighted that the government’s average performance in meeting the digital transformation requirements stood at 72 percent. The initiative spans 56 government institutions, with the governorates achieving an average proficiency level of 54 percent for 2023.
The organizers shared these updates during the second edition of the Government Digital Transformation Forum at Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre. The forum showcased the achievements of various government institutions in adopting digital technologies. It served as a platform for discussing best practices, future trends, and integrating innovative technical solutions to enhance public services and foster skill development within the sultanate.
In his address, Dr. Shidhani detailed Oman’s progress and the government’s commitment to advancing digital transformation. In the first half of 2023 alone, Oman recorded over 30 million electronic transactions using e-authentication and nearly one million electronic signature transactions.
From January to October 2023, the government portal processed more than 41 million digital transactions. The government issued over 3.3 million ID/residence card certificates digitally. The national platform for electronic integration facilitated approximately 942 million data exchanges during the same period.
Additionally, Dr. Shidhani also noted the simplification of 2,199 services and the digitization of 1,545 services in 32 months. Oman aims to digitize all basic government services by 2025 and has already achieved 61 per cent of this target.
“Oman’s dedication to digital transformation is evident as it continues to leverage technology to enhance government efficiency and service delivery. Thus, it is critical for socio-economic development and innovation across all sectors,” stated Dr Shidhani.
