Nvidia Says $100 Billion OpenAI Deal Still Not Finalised

Nvidia discusses OpenAI investment deal

Nvidia’s agreement to invest up to $100 billion in OpenAI remains unfinished, and the chipmaker confirmed this during a recent technology conference in Arizona. Although anticipation around the deal has been high, the company noted that both sides are still negotiating key terms. Colette Kress responded to questions by stating, “We still haven’t completed a definitive agreement, but we’re working with them.”

The potential partnership has sparked extensive industry debate because it connects two of the most influential players in the AI race. Moreover, concerns continue to rise around the growing number of circular deals within the AI ecosystem. The letter of intent announced in September outlined a plan that would deploy at least 10 gigawatts of Nvidia systems for OpenAI, which is enough energy to power more than 8 million U.S. homes.

Strategic Importance and Financial Implications

OpenAI remains one of Nvidia’s largest customers, and demand from top cloud providers contributes significantly to Nvidia’s sales. Additionally, the company is seeing accelerating interest in its advanced chips. Jensen Huang previously said Nvidia has $500 billion in bookings through 2026. Kress clarified that any future supply arranged through the ongoing OpenAI discussions would raise that figure even further. She added, “That half a trillion doesn’t include any of the work that we’re doing right now on the next part of the agreement with OpenAI.”

Meanwhile, Nvidia’s stock rose 2.6%, reflecting investor confidence in the company’s expanding influence in the AI sector. Because the market is evolving rapidly, each new deal adds pressure on competitors and shapes long-term expectations in the semiconductor industry.

Expanding AI Deals and Industry Concerns

Over the past year, Nvidia has continued to build partnerships with AI startups, and many of these companies are also major customers. As a result, analysts have voiced concerns about a potential AI bubble and the increasing number of interconnected investments. Last month, Nvidia announced plans to commit up to $10 billion to Anthropic, the rival of OpenAI. Kress noted that the Anthropic agreement could also add to the company’s substantial bookings.

Although final decisions around the OpenAI deal are still pending, momentum around Nvidia’s broader AI strategy continues to grow. The outcome of these negotiations may significantly influence the competitive landscape as demand for advanced computing surges.
