WhatsApp, the messaging platform owned by Meta, is reportedly developing a new ‘Lock chat’ feature for Android beta that will allow users to lock and hide chats for improved privacy. This feature will require fingerprint or passcode authentication to access locked chats and prevent media files from being automatically saved to the device’s gallery. The new feature is currently under development and is expected to be released in a future update.
Additionally, WhatsApp is rolling out a new text editor experience for some Android beta testers that includes the ability to edit photos, videos, and GIFs and switch between different fonts, text alignment, and background colors.
The platform is also reportedly working on 15 new durations for disappearing messages that will provide users with more control over the messages they send and receive. Furthermore, WhatsApp is testing a new feature that prevents multiple responses in polls, which can result in more accurate polls.
For community announcement groups, WhatsApp is rolling out a new full-width messaging interface that will improve the readability of conversations. This feature is currently available to some iOS beta testers and is expected to roll out to more users over the coming days.
