Streaming giant, Netflix has finally introduced its ‘Play Something’ feature to the Netflix Android app. The video streaming service had already launched this tool earlier for TVs and had been testing it on Android devices.
Now, since the feature has been added to the Netflix Android app, it can be used through a new button on the home screen. Interestingly, the feature adds a button across the streaming service’s UI to automatically suggest new series and movies to the users that they have never seen before.
How does the ‘Play Something’ feature work?
By suggesting all-new series, shows, and movies, the ‘Play Something’ feature helps users to discover new content, depending on their watch history and recommended algorithm. This feature basically works on the ‘shuffle’ function which is offered by many streaming services.
Users can access this feature once they log into the app and select their profile. The new ‘Play Something’ button is visible on the bottom right corner, above the menu bar at the bottom. It hovers over the content of the home screen.
iOS users may have to wait for ‘Play Something’ feature
As per sources, iOS users won’t be getting the ‘Play Something’ feature immediately as Netflix has announced that it will start testing the feature on iOS devices in the coming months. This means iPhone and iPad users will have to wait until next year to experience the feature.
Additionally, Netflix has also launched another feature called ‘Fast Laughs’ for movies and TV series on the platform, which has already been released on iOS devices in March this year.
Under this feature, Netflix has provided a dedicated tab to showcase scenes from popular comedy series, films, and stand-up specials.
Interestingly, Netflix has also confirmed that its long-awaited ‘Downloads for You’ tool will be on iOS devices from next month. The option to download and watch movies and TV shows offline is only available on Android devices as of now.
