NASA is partnering with Netflix to bring its livestream service, NASA+, to a wider global audience starting this summer. This platform will feature real-time broadcasts of rocket launches, astronaut spacewalks, mission updates, and live Earth views from the International Space Station.
With this new collaboration, NASA aims to make its content more accessible than ever. Previously available via the NASA app and website, the ad-free service will remain free to users. However, it will now reach Netflix’s massive user base of over 700 million people around the world.
This move aligns with NASA’s long-standing goal. As Rebecca Sirmons, general manager of NASA+ at the agency’s Washington headquarters, explained, “The National Aeronautics and Space Act of 1958 calls on us to share our story of space exploration with the broadest possible audience.” She added that this effort seeks to inspire future generations of explorers—whether they’re watching on their couch or from a phone in their hand.
A New Era of Space Exploration on Screen
NASA+ initially launched in 2023, aiming to open space science to a broader audience. Now, through this expanded partnership, NASA hopes to generate even more interest in its missions. Cheryl Warner, NASA news chief, noted in a press release, “Through this partnership, NASA’s work in science and exploration will become even more accessible, allowing the agency to increase engagement with and inspire a global audience in a modern media landscape.”
Netflix will release livestream schedules closer to the actual launch days. So, viewers should stay tuned and check regularly for updates.
Broader Reach, Bigger Impact
This collaboration signals a new chapter in how NASA connects with the public. By offering content in a more modern and user-friendly format, the agency continues to evolve its outreach efforts. At the same time, this approach underscores the importance of keeping space exploration visible and engaging for all.
With this initiative, NASA reaffirms its mission to bring the universe closer to everyone no matter where they are.
