Microsoft Bing Introduces Free AI Video Generator

Microsoft Bing announced on Monday the introduction of Bing Video Creator, a new feature that lets users generate videos from text prompts. Powered by OpenAI’s Sora model, this tool marks the first time video generation using Sora is available for free. Until now, OpenAI had restricted access to paying customers only. Thanks to Microsoft’s integration, anyone with a Microsoft account can try creating videos via the Bing app without initial cost.

How Bing Video Creator Works and Its Current Limits

Currently, Bing Video Creator is accessible only on mobile devices, not desktop. Despite its “fast” mode promising quicker results, videos often take several hours to generate. However, all users can create up to 10 video clips for free once logged into their Microsoft account. After that, they must spend 100 Microsoft Rewards points per video. These points can be earned by searching with Bing or shopping at the Microsoft Store. For example, performing a search on Bing grants 5 points, capped at 150 points daily.

Users can queue up to three video generation requests simultaneously, but each video lasts only five seconds. Additionally, the tool only produces videos in a vertical 9:16 aspect ratio. This choice suggests Microsoft expects users to share their videos on platforms like TikTok or Instagram. Fortunately, the company plans to add support for horizontal 16:9 videos in the near future, expanding creative possibilities.

What This Means for AI Video Creation and Users

By integrating Sora-powered video generation into Bing, Microsoft is making AI-driven content creation more accessible. Although there are some restrictions and performance issues, the free access encourages experimentation and creativity. Moreover, tying video creation to Microsoft Rewards incentivizes active engagement with Bing’s ecosystem. As AI video technology evolves, users can expect improvements in speed, video length, and format options. For now, Bing Video Creator represents an exciting step toward bringing advanced AI video tools to a broader audience.
