Bing imposes restriction on the number of questions to five per session
Microsoft has announced that it will limit the number of questions per chat session on its new Bing search engine, which is powered by generative AI, to five questions per session and 50 questions per day. In a blog post, Microsoft stated that extended chat sessions could potentially confuse the underlying chat model of the new Bing.
The decision follows recent reports by some media outlets that have pointed out the potential danger of responses from the new Bing search engine, highlighting that the technology may not yet be ready for prime time.
While early results of conversations with Microsoft’s Bing and Google’s chatbot, Bard, have shown that the AI-powered search engines can be unpredictable, Microsoft’s new Bing, which has a waitlist of millions of people for access, is still a potentially lucrative opportunity for the company.
During an investor and press presentation last week, Microsoft stated that each percentage point of market share it gains in the search advertising market could bring in an additional $2 billion of ad revenue. In its current state, the new Bing has been showing advertisements related to the user’s queries, rather than providing specific answers to questions.
