MGX Expands France Campus AI To 3GW Capacity

MGX Campus AI expansion agreement

MGX, Bpifrance, and Mistral have announced plans to expand Campus AI in France, significantly increasing the project’s scale and computing capacity. The initiative now aims to develop up to 3 gigawatts of AI compute capacity across the country, making it one of Europe’s largest AI infrastructure programs.

Moreover, the consortium plans to establish a second site, which will effectively double the project’s original investment. As a result, Campus AI is evolving from a single facility into a broader national network of AI infrastructure designed to support Europe’s growing demand for advanced computing resources.

Building a Nationwide AI Infrastructure Network

Campus AI operates as a joint venture between MGX, Bpifrance, Mistral, and NVIDIA. Together, the partners are developing a network of AI facilities that support model training, inference, and large-scale AI deployment. Consequently, France is strengthening its position as a leading destination for AI infrastructure investment in Europe.

The expansion follows substantial progress at the project’s flagship campus in Fouju, located in the Seine-et-Marne region. Additionally, the new site will replicate the project’s focus on sustainable operations and high-performance computing. Therefore, the consortium can increase capacity while maintaining environmental objectives.

Furthermore, Campus AI plans to support European AI developers by providing access to large-scale computing resources. This approach addresses the increasing demand for infrastructure needed to train and deploy advanced AI models. As AI adoption accelerates, compute capacity has become a critical factor for innovation and competitiveness.

Supporting Europe’s AI Ambitions

The expanded project is expected to create thousands of jobs across France while supporting industries involved in power, semiconductors, electronics, and digital infrastructure. In addition, the initiative seeks to strengthen local supply chains and encourage further investment in advanced technologies.

Meanwhile, the facilities will use France’s largely decarbonized electricity network and energy-efficient designs. The campuses will also incorporate water-free cooling technologies, helping reduce environmental impact as computing demand grows. As Campus AI expands nationwide, it will contribute to Europe’s broader effort to build sovereign AI capabilities and reduce dependence on external computing resources. Therefore, the initiative represents a significant step toward creating a competitive and sustainable AI ecosystem across the region.
