Celebrating its 101st year, MG Motor took centre stage at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show by unveiling three innovative models. The spotlight included the futuristic Cyber X concept, the refreshed MG Cyberster MY 2026, and the limited Cyberster Black 101st Anniversary Edition. These vehicles officially mark the launch of MG’s Cyber family, a step into a digitally connected future.
The Cyber X concept offers a bold blend of heritage and futurism. Touted as a “global urban adventure toy,” it is tailored for a new generation of explorers. Designed by Jozef Kaban, renowned for shaping the Bugatti Veyron, the Cyber X captures visual drama with its tall, muscular stance and ultra-short overhangs. Moreover, it combines urban elegance with a rugged, off-road presence, appealing to diverse lifestyles.
Its Stardust Gray finish mimics sandstone when still, but transforms into flowing ripples under motion. Furthermore, classic pop-up headlights are seamlessly integrated with aerodynamic detailing, striking a nostalgic yet modern tone. This model reflects MG’s strategy to evolve from racetrack-focused performance to versatile, lifestyle-oriented mobility, targeting both urban commuters and leisure seekers.
Cyberster Returns with a New Identity
In parallel, the MG Cyberster MY 2026 returns with enhanced performance and visual upgrades. As a successor to the legendary MGB, the electric coupé has played a key role in expanding China’s electric sports car market from zero to 10% market share. Impressively, over 3,000 units were sold globally within six months, making it the top-selling electric coupé worldwide.
The new Cyberster introduces Iris Blue and Andes Gray as exterior options, paired with dual-tone interior themes such as Red/Black and Gray/White. Additionally, cabin comfort is improved through colour-matched trim panels and a redesigned wind deflector that cuts turbulence by 90%. Meanwhile, the Cyberster Black 101st Anniversary Edition, finished in gloss black and chrome, adds exclusivity. A hardtop Cyber GTS variant is also in development, catering to drivers seeking enhanced enclosure and sportiness.
Smart Cabin Innovation with OPPO Partnership
Further elevating its technology focus, MG’s parent company SAIC Motor announced a strategic partnership with OPPO. This collaboration introduces a new smart cabin ecosystem that seamlessly connects smartphones with vehicle systems. The co-developed platform will debut in upcoming MG models, aiming to redefine in-car experience.
Through AI-driven personalisation and intuitive cross-device controls, OPPO envisions “a cockpit in your pocket.” As such, the smart cabin offers a fluid transition between digital and physical environments, transforming the vehicle into a truly connected third space.
According to Tom Lee, Managing Director of MG Middle East, this vision aligns with regional goals under initiatives like Saudi Vision 2030 and the UAE’s EV projects. MG’s Cyber Family, coupled with OPPO’s innovation, exemplifies a commitment to intelligent mobility and sustainable design.
As MG enters its second century, it does so with bold designs, smart technology, and a forward-thinking strategy that positions it at the forefront of automotive evolution.
