Meta Unveils Muse Charm AI Device for Holiday Launch

Meta Muse Charm AI device display

Meta has unveiled Muse Charm, a palm-sized device designed specifically for its Muse artificial intelligence assistant. The announcement came during Meta Connect on September 23, 2026. Consequently, Meta is expanding its AI hardware efforts beyond smart glasses and virtual reality headsets.

The new gadget combines a touchscreen, voice interaction, and a customizable AI character. Moreover, Meta plans to begin shipping Charm in December 2026, ahead of the holiday season. However, the company has not yet disclosed its price.

Muse Charm Brings AI Into a Dedicated Device

Meta designed Charm as a compact device that users can carry throughout the day. Its size resembles an Apple AirPods case, while its design recalls the digital pets that were popular in the 1990s.

The device features an approximately two-inch OLED touchscreen. Additionally, users can navigate its interface with their thumbs and interact with Muse through real-time voice conversations.

A virtual Muse character appears on the display. Users can customise its appearance, clothing, voice, and other characteristics. Therefore, the device gives Meta’s AI assistant a persistent visual presence outside smartphones and computers.

Meta also includes a fingerprint sensor to unlock Charm. Furthermore, a built-in 5G modem allows users to access Muse models without relying on Wi-Fi. The device does not support conventional phone or video calls.

Users can carry Charm in a pocket, attach it to a bag, or connect it to a keychain. Alternatively, they can use a wrist strap. Its translucent casing also exposes parts of the internal circuitry.

Meta Targets the AI Hardware Market

Meta’s announcement comes as technology companies explore devices built around AI assistants. These products aim to reduce dependence on smartphones for everyday digital interactions.

However, Charm differs from Meta’s existing smart glasses. It offers a dedicated screen and a handheld interface, allowing users to interact directly with Muse.

Meta Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg described the device as a way to keep Muse readily accessible. Meanwhile, Chief Technology Officer Andrew Bosworth characterised Charm as an early-stage experiment. He said the company wants to observe how people use it.

Launch Timeline and Market Position

Meta expects Charm to ship in December 2026. Nevertheless, the company has not announced retail pricing or confirmed broader availability beyond the planned holiday launch.

The device also arrives alongside other hardware announcements. At Meta Connect, the company introduced lighter virtual reality glasses and camera-free smart glasses. In addition, Meta expanded Muse integrations with retailers, including Walmart, Best Buy, and Gap.

Charm’s commercial prospects will depend on pricing, practical uses, and consumer interest in carrying a separate AI device. Furthermore, privacy, connectivity, and battery performance could influence adoption.

For now, Meta is positioning Muse Charm as an experimental extension of its AI ecosystem. Its December launch will provide an initial indication of consumer demand for dedicated, assistant-centred hardware.
