Meta Secures $6 Billion Fibre Deal to Power AI Data Centres

Meta AI fibre infrastructure

Meta Platforms has secured a fibre-optic supply agreement worth up to $6 billion to support its growing AI data-centre footprint. As a result, the deal strengthens long-term infrastructure planning while also accelerating deployment timelines. Moreover, the agreement reflects rising demand for high-capacity connectivity as AI workloads continue to scale.

Manufacturing expansion and technology supply

Under the agreement, Corning will expand manufacturing operations in North Carolina. In particular, the company will enlarge its fibre-optic cable facility, with Meta acting as the anchor customer. At the same time, Corning will supply its latest generation of optical fibre, cable, and connectivity products. Additionally, the supplier already serves major technology firms through products such as Gorilla Glass.

Economic impact and long-term outlook

Corning CEO Wendell P. Weeks stated Meta’s investment will also support an increase in the company’s employment levels in the state by 15 per cent to 20 per cent and help sustain a workforce of more than 5,000 employees. Meanwhile, the agreement is expected to remain in place through 2030. Consequently, both companies gain long-term certainty while reinforcing domestic manufacturing and workforce growth.
