Meta Loses Top AI Talent Amid Superintelligence Lab Shakeup

Several employees have left Meta’s new Superintelligence Lab (MSL), including veterans and recent hires.

Recent exits include:
– Bert Maher: 12 years at Meta, joining Anthropic
– Tony Liu: 8 years, managed PyTorch GPU systems
– Chi-Hao Wu: 5 years, now chief AI officer at Memories.ai
– Aram Markosyan: 4+ years, focused on AI safety and smart glasses
– Chaya Nayak: 9 years, leading generative AI and Llama series, joining OpenAI
– Afroz Mohiuddin: 1+ year, previously at Google, moving to OpenAI

Additional departures: Avi Verma and Ethan Knight (less than a month), Rishabh Agarwal (5 months), Ruben Mayer (2 months)

Billion-Dollar Investments

In June, Meta invested $14.3 billion in Scale AI, a data-labeling vendor. Several Scale AI employees joined MSL, with Alexandr Wang co-leading the lab.

Challenges Ahead
