MBRSC and SpaceData Collaborate to Advance Digital Twin Technology for Space and Urban Development
The Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tokyo-based startup SpaceData to enhance digital twin technology for space exploration and urban development in the UAE. This strategic partnership will introduce two key digital twin solutions, further integrating advanced simulation technologies into space missions and infrastructure planning.
Lunar Digital Twin for Space Exploration
As part of the agreement, SpaceData will develop a high-fidelity lunar digital twin to support the Emirates Lunar Mission. This simulation environment will utilize MBRSC’s rover observation data to enhance lunar exploration capabilities. Additionally, the platform will include a training module for UAE astronauts, replicating realistic lunar surface conditions using 3D spatial and environmental data to improve mission safety and efficiency.
Urban Digital Twin for Dubai’s Development
Beyond space applications, the partnership will also see the creation of a comprehensive digital twin of Dubai’s urban landscape. This initiative aims to drive economic growth by enabling virtual tourism, allowing users worldwide to explore Dubai’s landmarks through immersive digital experiences. Moreover, integrating satellite and meteorological data, SpaceData will develop a disaster prediction digital twin, focusing on climate-related risks and large-scale disaster simulations. This innovative approach will support Dubai’s ongoing urban expansion, ensuring sustainability and enhanced safety measures.
By leveraging digital twin technology, the collaboration between MBRSC and SpaceData aligns with the UAE’s ambitions to advance space exploration, smart city development, and digital transformation.
